GROUNDBREAKING SCIENCE IN COMPETITIVE SWIMMING FOR 2008 BEIJING OLYMPIC GAMES
TYR Sport defines a new level of elite performance excellence with the introduction of its Tracer Light competition swimsuit, which will be worn by elite swimmers of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Tracer technology significantly advances the boundaries of what an elite swimsuit can do for the performance of an athlete.
“When I dive into the water, I really notice a difference. It feels so light and water just drips off. Tracer Light holds my leg muscles in tight. By the end of a race, I still feel like I have something left in my legs to propel to the wall,” says Amanda Weir, 2-Time Olympic medalist.
By examining muscular and anatomical structure, TYR designed Tracer Light to fit with precision over the world’s most elegant form – the human body. Working hand-in-hand with top caliber athletes, TYR has developed the first performance swimsuit with compression panels that addresses muscle oxygenation, cadenced muscle responsiveness, muscle core and energy return systems. This one-of-a-kind racing discovery focuses on the swimmer’s most aggressive and active muscle groups to offset fatigue. The compression panels additionally streamline the body: each swimsuit may be custom fitted to accommodate the swimmer’s anatomy and stroke demands.
The TYR exclusive panels combat friction, pressure and wave drag that is stressed upon a swimmer when they race at a high velocity. For example: Tracer Light Short John is suited to high-performance breaststroke events; here panels cover powerful muscle structures in the hips, legs and buttocks. This effect reduces drag created by the leg motion during the breaststroke’s frog kick and limits muscle fatigue, an important asset in the later stages of any race.
“When I’m out in the open water racing for two hours, I need a swimsuit that I can depend on. TYR has worked with me to put compression panels in just the right areas. I have worked my entire life for this and it’s finally my turn,” comments Mark Warkentin, 2007 US Open Water World Championship Trials Champion and Top American qualifier.
Elite swimmers demand a racing swimsuit that feels light and tight. Tracer Light uses the lightest hydrophobic microfiber available, specifically designed to restrict water absorption, drag and weight while enhancing stretch properties and memory retention. Tracer Light features essential Flat-Lock stitching which complements muscular torque and flexion; thereby enhancing athletic performance.
TYR has worked closely with its endorsed swimmers to evaluate Tracer Light in competition and the results speak for themselves. At the 2007 US National Championship, swimmers wearing Tracer Light won 5 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals and scored four lifetime personal best times. Mary DeScenza won the Kiphuth Award, being highest scoring female at the National Championship. Mark Warkentin and Micha Burden won the 2007 Open Water Championship Trials, proving that in a grueling 10K race Tracer Light maintains its advanced performance benefits. TYR’s Open Water model of Tracer Light is the only swimsuit designed with Energy Pockets used to store replenishing fuel for swimmers. The hydrophobic fabric and fibers that keep the suit weightless in the chlorine treated pool, do the same in fresh or salt water.
“I’m a sprinter, and in my races the difference between winning and losing can come down to hundredths of a second. That’s faster than you can blink. With the TYR’s new Tracer Light, I know that if it comes down those last few hundredths of a second, my suit could very well be the difference between gold, silver or bronze,” said two-time Olympic medalist, Amanda Weir.
TYR’s team of world renowned swimmers include 4-time Olympic Gold medalist Yana Klochkova, 2-time Olympic medalist Amanda Weir, 2-time Olympic medalist Martina Moravcova, Olympic Gold medalist Camelia Potec, World Champion Leila Vaziri and Pan American Gold medalist Fran Crippen.
